Amanda Desai (she/her/hers)
Director of Residence Life

Amanda began at Nichols in 2011 as a Residence Director in Shamie Hall and has been serving as the Director of Residence Life since 2018. Amanda received her Bachelor of Technology, Agricultural Business Management from SUNY Cobleskill and later fell in love with higher education, and received her MA of Higher Education Administrative Services at McKendree University in 2012. 

 

What is your favorite thing about Nichols College?

Nichols is bursting with Bison Pride and I love being a part of that community! Our small community feel and nurturing environment is why I enjoy working here.

What do you like to do outside of work? 

Outside of work I love spending time with my husband Bhavin and my son, Dev. You can always find me either out in the garden or in the kitchen trying out a new recipe!

What stands out to you most about Nichols students?

Nichols students are dedicated, hardworking, and truly look out for one another. They make connections and work together to build a strong community on campus.


Sam Buote (they/them/theirs)
Area Coordinator

Sam has been at Nichols since 2018 serving as an Area Coordinator. They oversee Shamie Hall with a staff of 10 RAs. Sam received their Bachelor of the Arts in Communications from Lasell University then decided to pursue their passion for higher education and earned a EdM in Educational Leadership & Policy Studies: Higher Education Administration at Boston University.

 

What is your favorite thing about Nichols College?

My favorite thing about Nichols is the ability students have to make their college experience what they want it to be. The flexibility in academics sets them up for success in and out of the classroom.

What do you like to do outside of work?

Outside of work I love to build and create things! I have a passion for woodworking – I love to be able to draw up the plans for a project and see it come to life.

What stands out to you most about Nichols students?

What stands out to me most about Nichols students is their dedication. From tasks small to large, once they have their mind set on something they don’t stop until they achieve it.


Adrienne Boertjens (she/her/hers)
Area Coordinator

Adrienne joined the Residence Life team in 2016 as an Area Coordinator. She oversees Remillard, North, Center, and Budleigh Halls with a staff of 11 Resident Assistants (RAs). Adrienne earned her Bachelor of the Arts in International Relations and Affairs from Minnesota State University, Mankato. She then went on to earn her MA in Higher education and Student Affairs at Eastern Michigan University where she served as a Graduate Hall Director.

 

What is your favorite thing about Nichols College?

I most appreciate the sense of community that comes from working with such a tight-knit group of students and fellow staff members! Getting to know students on a personal level and playing such a direct role in their transformative growth is extremely rewarding.

What do you like to do outside of work? 

I enjoy the beautiful things in life! I like to do a lot of arts and crafts in my spare time, as well as spending time on the beach soaking up the sun!

What stands out to you most about Nichols students?

Nichols students are very driven, and demonstrate eager participation in their own learning experience.  They’re often willing to take on new challenges and seek opportunities for their own personal and professional growth, and are very committed to advancing the Nichols Community as a whole.  They truly embody the “herd” mentality of looking out for one another.


Ryan Morong (He/Him/His)
Area Coordinator

Ryan started at Nichols in August as an Area Coordinator afters serving as a Resident Hall Manager at SUNY Oneonta. He oversees Kuppenheimer Hall, Olsen Hall, the Copper Beech Apartments, and Winston Hall with a staff of 7 RAs. Ryan received his Bachelor of Science, Social Science from Plymouth State University in 2019.

What are you most looking forward to in your new chapter at Nichols College?

I look forward to working and living in a smaller campus community while being close to my family and friends in New England.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I love to be outdoors! My favorite things to do are going to the beach and going on runs.

What is your favorite thing about working in Higher Education?

My favorite thing about working in Higher Education is working with student staff and witnessing their development as individuals and as a team.
